Inaugural Community Event Celebrates Equity, Sustainability in Historic Sweet Auburn

“SAGE Fest in Sweet Auburn” will be held on Saturday, April 1st from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.

ATLANTA – March 27, 2023 – Join the Historic District Development Corporation, Central Atlanta Progress, and Sweet Auburn Works on Saturday, April 1 from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. for the inaugural SAGE Fest in Sweet Auburn, a free community festival that will bring together residents, local businesses, and community partners to celebrate the rich history and the exciting future of the historic Sweet Auburn neighborhood.

The event will be hosted at 229 Auburn Avenue Atlanta, GA 30303 at the base of the John Lewis HERO mural. SAGE Fest provides an opportunity for the public to support neighborhood vendors and enjoy local food; learn about urban farming from local growers; enjoy a yoga class or mindful meditation; participate in a walking tour to learn about new developments in the neighborhood; lend your voice on community planning and policy priorities; and enter-to-win prizes and giveaways to local points of interests. The event will also launch a new, community planning effort called “Sweet Auburn Green & Equitable District” (SAGE).

SAGE is a collaboration between organizations and residents dedicated to promoting an equitable and sustainable future in the historic African American neighborhood of Sweet Auburn while preserving and celebrating its heritage. “For a community like Sweet Auburn, sustainable and equitable development can only be achieved through a multi-pronged approach that empowers residents and actively includes them in revitalizing their neighborhoods,” said Chenee Joseph, President and CEO of the Historic District Development Corporation. “We invite others to join and support this effort because historic neighborhoods are vanishing across our country and we must move swiftly to protect them and preserve them.”

The event is free and open to all ages.

“SAGE Fest in Sweet Auburn” is made possible through the generous support of LISC Atlanta and Invest Atlanta.  SAGE’s mission is to improve the lives of Sweet Auburn residents through community-led advocacy and investment promoting equitable development, environmental sustainability, and the centering of Black culture.
