Applications for artists and creative entrepreneurs open March 1.
ATLANTA – March 1, 2026 – HDDC’s Sweet Auburn Green & Equitable District (SAGE), the economic development catalyst for Sweet Auburn, announces the launch of the 2026 SAGE Art Business Microloan Program to support artists and creative entrepreneurs in Atlanta. Applications are now open.
Sweet Auburn has always been a proving ground for bold ideas, and today SAGE is helping shape what comes next by prioritizing small business growth, local ownership, and community-rooted enterprise. The SAGE Art Business Microloan Program is a direct investment in that vision, offering starter capital for small businesses, urban agriculture, and creative enterprises that strengthen Sweet Auburn’s ecosystem. These loans are designed as strategic first investments that fuel scalable ideas and generate both individual opportunity and collective return.
Launched with support provided by Capital One, the program provides accessible microloan capital alongside business education, mentorship, and long-term support—resources that are often out of reach for creatives operating small businesses. The program structure is designed to help participants build or repair credit while strengthening their business foundation. Loans are low-to-no interest, and prior credit history does not hinder participation. Eligible creatives must have an LLC in good standing and be focused on formalizing and growing a sustainable businesses in the area.
Selected participants receive microloan funding for materials, equipment, marketing, workspace costs, professional services, and other business-related expenses. Participation in the program also includes 20 hours of hands-on support through group workshops, one-on-one consulting with experts in legal, marketing, finance, HR, or business development, structured mentorship, and participation in a public art expo to increase visibility and market access.
SAGE is committed to advancing small businesses through its microloans program and its signature microgrants program. Recipients of last year’s microgrants demonstrate what intentional investment can unlock. Faces and Futures expanded access to professional headshots across Atlanta, increasing economic opportunity for residents seeking career mobility. Atlanta Center for Photography transformed underutilized space into a rooftop herb garden that now anchors creative programming and environmental education. These projects are proof points in a larger strategy to cultivate entrepreneurs who are building assets, activating space, and strengthening the economic fabric of Sweet Auburn in real time.
